It occurs to me that the only time I long for more 'real' friendships, e.g. not online, is when someone tells me I ought to.

I got burned by online friendships very very badly and I don't have any real life friends, so I isolate myself. But I'm still somewhat okay with it, or rather I'm more okay with it now than I was last year, or a few years ago.

I honestly think you can have deep, meaningful, amazing relationships with people online that span years. I really truly do. And if they're the people that support you and make you happy, then you're much better off than forcing yourself to associate with folks in real life who you might not get along with half as well with simply because they're "there".
