Making things, making things, making things

Just blah, blah, blah. Those curious about the details of the blah blah blah can find them under the cut.

I finished the first of umpteen Christmas presents this morning. I've been keeping myself mostly off LJ and GoS and AIM in order to get some work done on my book and these presents. (Naturally, I played Age of Empires instead.) Progress has been made on the latter, the former not so much. I remain hopeful. It'll happen when it's ready.

In the meantime, I have determined to make an amigurumi Cthulhu after I finish all the presents. Reminds me I ought to check in with everyone I've planned a present for and make sure they've no objection to something soft and crocheted arriving in their mail from Someone On The Internet. Also, I don't think I'll be using this brand of yarn again. It's lovely and soft, but with a tendency to unravel and get caught on the hook. Of course, that could just be my fault, as I used this before I lost my knitting needles and didn't have the problem then. Crocheting is still pretty new to me.

I haven't turned on Sims 2 in three days. I'm not sure what's wrong with me.

Awww I saw a post from you titled "Making things" and got all excited, and here you haven't even had the game on in three days ;)

The muse is a bitch. As you said, it'll happen when it's ready.

You must post pictures of amigurumi Cthulhu. The Elder Gods demand it.

Alas, not sim things. Though I expect to make a few of those in the future too. :P

Well, if the Elder Gods say so D:

If there is one thing I've learned from NaNo, it is to write utter crap first just so you at least get the part you want done down on paper. Then you go back through with a fine toothed comb (or perhaps a chainsaw, whichever) and fix and edit and polish and make it not crap. But forcing characters and plots to work is stressful and takes a lot of the fun out of writing is the second thing I've learned from NaNo.

I have no idea what an amigurumi is but seeing it in the same sentence at "Cthulhu" has caught my attention. :D

*nods* One of the best pieces of writing advice I've ever heard was "Give yourself permission to write a terrible first draft." Just get it down on the paper and you can fiddle with it from there.

Amigurumi is lil stuffed critters, usually knit or crochet (I think). They are adorable <3

Sometimes I think that's the only way, although it's hard for me to do that. I like to let the characters tell me what they're doing, but when they don't, what else can you do?

[identity profile] rustedinkwell.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Throw things at them. I have determined that bandits are like training yards. In a modern day setting, power outages for seemingly no reason in the middle of conversation might work too. Old enemies from school suddenly appearing or a REALLY BIG SPIDER could probably do... something.

I... don't know, I've got nothing. :( I hit that same problem a lot of the time. There isn't much you can do but sit and wait for that one brilliant idea to come up and hit you.

I <3 crocheting... I still have the first hat I made. What yarn are you using?

[identity profile] sixtylilies.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Caron 'Simply Soft'. I liked it quite a bit for knitting, I'm undecided about crocheting.

Hats! :D

Hmmm...what size hook are you using? I think I used that yarn the other day for a baby hat. It was a bit of a pain. It kept slipping. :P

Very Fuzzy First Hat... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/Kielen/img093.jpg

Keeping yourself from lj is detrimental to your health. Or at least your "seeing Ora and Juliet in Sarah's game" health.

Strange Aeons will happen when it's ready. Solitaire is happening (albeit not nearly as quickly as it was there for a minute) because it is ready, it only took, ah...six? seven? years...

And I am still so freakin' excited about Enna!crochet, srsly, you have no idea.
...
I can flow...I can freak...uh...I can freak and flow at da same tiem?? Right. I'm off to post wedding pictures, huzzah!

[identity profile] sixtylilies.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, I'm glad you're still excited. Hopefully you'll still feel that way when you get it.

Pictures? Yessss.

I think kielen and I think a like. I've been crocheting since I was 4 and knitting since I was 10. One yarn I love to use is Red Heart Plush, it makes lovely shawls/scarfs and blankets, it's really soft and doesn't unravel (it is a little pricey but so worth it), so what kind of yarn where you using.

[identity profile] sixtylilies.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Red Heart Plush? I'll keep it in mind. (As I said to Kielen, I'm just using Simply Soft.)

I loaded up the sims for the first time in a week yesterday :O I've been playing some agatha christie game, age of empires and age of empires 2 (real time strategy game addiction FTW!!)

I can knit but I can't crochet.

[identity profile] sixtylilies.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
We got AoE 2 a couple years ago, and my sister promptly abandoned AoE for it, but I never really got into it. Perhaps I'll give it a try after I get tired of this one.

I can knit, but my knitting needles (all three sizes -.-) have gone missing. I had a couple crochet hooks in my sewing basket, so I learned to use them.

[identity profile] fated-oph3lia.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I like both, I've just gotten the trial versions of age of mythology, and it's even more addictive -_-

I dunno if I even have any knitting needles anymore lol.
